FD Calculator
See what a fixed deposit matures to, and how much of that is interest, before you lock the money in.
What is FD?
A fixed deposit locks a lump sum with a bank for a set period at a fixed rate. It is one of the safest places to keep money, which is also why it grows slowly, often barely ahead of inflation after tax.
How it's calculated
The calculator compounds your deposit quarterly, the usual bank convention: maturity = P × (1 + r/4)^(4 × years). Interest earned is the maturity amount minus your deposit.
An example
Deposit ₹1 lakh at 7% for 5 years and it matures to roughly ₹1.41 lakh, about ₹41,000 of interest, before tax.
Questions people ask
Is FD interest taxed?
Yes. Interest is added to your income and taxed at your slab, and banks deduct TDS above a threshold. This calculator shows the pre-tax maturity.
Is an FD a good investment?
For safety and short-term needs, yes. For long-term growth, its returns often trail equity and even inflation after tax, so it works best as one part of a plan, not the whole plan.
